2009 Red Dot Product Design Winners - All The Best of The Best

With more than 11,000 submissions from 61 countries, the international “red dot design award” is the largest and most renowned design competition in the world. It is divided into the “red dot award: product design”, the “red dot award: communication design” and the “red dot award: design concept.” The award-winning products are put before an international public in the red dot design museum.

Red Dot has just announced (on March 16th) the 2009 winners in the category of Product Design. While they released a list in an Excel spread sheet, they have yet to release images of all the winners (they did the same thing last year). They had a few images of the "Best Of The Best" winners and I did my best to find the others for you.

The "Best of The Best" winners for 2009 Product Design are listed below by category. The grouped images represent trends within that category, not necessarily the winners. The individual photos ARE of the actual winners.

Some stats about the competition and winners:

The 3,231 entries for the “red dot award: product design 2009” stemming from a total of 49 nations testify to the fact that design is precisely the platform for international companies that appears to be essential in order to survive on the global market. The increase in the number of participating companies by around 16% demonstrates the economic potential of design in times of economic crisis in particular.

The international jury of experts awarded the “red dot” to 683 products for their high quality of design, and the best 49 received the “red dot: best of the best” award. Because it is often details that separate good products from great products, 194 products received an honourable mention in recognition of their especially refined detail solutions.

• 17% of all awards went to Asia this year, with 53 of the successful products coming from Taiwan alone.
• German companies received the greatest number of winning entries —329.
• American companies received 38 awards. Dell and Apple both received 8 awards, with Apple garnering 2 “best of the best” for the iPod Nano and the MacBook Air.
Sony Corporation and Robert Bosch Hausgeräte were the most awarded companies, each with 15 selections.
• The most-honored studio is Stuttgart’s Phoenix Design, which can take credit for 12 winners.
